SPRED:  Special Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation

Dedicated to meeting the spiritual needs of our brothers and sisters with disabilities, and welcoming them into the life of the Church.

SPRED is a symbol-using catechetical program for persons with physical, mental or emotional challenges.  The SPRED program  also serves as a resource for helping parishes create and nurture caring Church communities where people of all abilities can participate.

The program began in the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1960 and is now offered by 14 Dioceses in the United States and 17 others around the world.  All of the Maine SPRED programs are under the direction of the Parish Inclusion Ministry of Catholic Charities of Maine.  St. Joseph's SPRED of Prince of Peace Parish was established in 1991, and is one of seven SPRED groups in the Portland Diocese. 

St. Joseph's SPRED of the Prince of Peace Parish seeks to serve the spiritual needs of special-needs youth of the area by:

SPRED meets at 6:00 pm every other Wednesday evening at Sacred Heart Church Hall at 8 Sacred Heart Place in Auburn.  New friends from areas nearby are always welcome.
