In the Portland Diocese, the order of the Sacraments of Initiation is restored Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. Those who reach the age of 7 receive both Confirmation and First Communion together.
However, other diocese delay the Sacrament of Confirmation until a later age. When Catholics move to the Diocese of Portland and have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation, the parish has a separate program to prepare for the Sacrament. The bishop celebrates a number of these events throughout the diocese and parishioners from the surrounding areas gather with him to receive the Sacrament.
