SAINT DOMINIC ACADEMY MAKES ITS WAY TOWARD THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
As Saint Dominic Academy makes its way toward the end of the school year, the month of May provides continued opportunities for prayer, study, community, and service. We recently prayed the rosary as a school community and processed outside to crown Mary during our May Crowning prayer service. The 8th grade participated in their retreat day, which began with attending Mass at Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon Falls. We are grateful for continued opportunities to collaborate with Prince of Peace Parish and other local parishes. After Mass, the students traveled to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland for a tour of the cathedral. Students learned experientially that they are part of the community of the whole Church, both diocesan and world-wide.
Middle school classes have been hard at work. In sixth grade English language arts, students are studying irony and satire in different genres of literature. Students are learning about the earth's surface in science class, investigating such topics as erosion, mass wasting, and the inner workings of earth's core. The seventh grade has recently completed their animal project, a major semester project that includes a slide presentation, an oral presentation, and a 3-D model of an animal of their choice. Students present their animal in the class in a ten-minute oral presentation detailing factual information they have learned about their animal. Eighth grade students in physics class were challenged to design and build a marble roller coaster out of cardstock. They had to incorporate funnels, wide and narrow curves, loops, merges, straight paths, and more. The finished products even have a theme and are three to four feet tall!
High school students also continue with their studies and are completing their community service, especially the seniors, who are out at various organizations during the day to volunteer. We pray that you and your families have a very blessed month of May. May the Blessed Virgin Mary pray for us!
