Dear Parishioners, This weekend is Laetare Sunday, which is the Fourth Sunday of Lent. It is pretty amazing how Lent is flying by us. In order to get into the season of Lent, I invite you to attend Holy Cross Church on Sunday afternoon for prayer and song. Sr. Monique and the Holy Cross choir have put together a Lenten service of music and readings to reflect on the upcoming events. It is the one time during Lent when we are called to rejoice, “Laetare,” before we enter into the immediate preparation of the celebration of Holy Week and Easter joy.
Today (Sunday) is also the feast of St. Joseph. The parish is hosting the St. Joseph Table, which is a great tradition in our faith. In Italy, March 19th is also Father’s Day. The tradition of the St. Joseph Table grew out of a famine in Italy where they prayed to St. Joseph for help and it rained. They were so happy that after the harvest, they prepared a special table of food to share with the poor. Each year, those with means in the community prepare food for the less fortunate, especially the sick and homeless. It brings together the veneration of St. Joseph, the table or altar, and the poor. When we live this, we are at our best. That is why it is a great opportunity to bring your children or grandchildren with you to the store and let them pick the things they will bring to the table of St. Joseph and say a quick prayer.
I would also like to thank everyone who was a part of putting on the St. Patrick’s Day meal. The Knights have been amazing in the giving of their time and talent, and it is not only this event. We are so very lucky to have the men in the Church who make up the Knights. They have been a pleasure to work with in the parish, especially under the direction of our district deputy, Bob Michaud.
