At St. Dominic Academy, we guide our students to live their faith. Here are some ways they’ve been doing that in the last few weeks at our Lewiston campus.
We prayed a school-wide Rosary for Pope Francis’ tenth anniversary. Students helped choose photos of our Holy Father to create a slide show with a different photo for each Hail Mary of the Rosary, which helped them focus on Pope Francis and all the things he does while they prayed for him.
We hosted a guest speaker from the Limb Kind Foundation, who spoke about her upcoming international volunteer trip to give children prostheses and help them learn how to use them. She even showed the children her prosthetic hand. With a dress down day, the students raised money to help the foundation. It was a great way for the students to understand the dignity of every human being.
Fifth graders experienced a Lenten retreat, in which they prayed the Stations of the Cross, visited the Adoration Chapel, heard a special message from Father Patrick, and created Lenten artwork. Many students in all grades have chosen their own ways to pray, fast, and give of themselves during Lent.
In appreciation of God’s creation, our students in Recycling Club collect and sort many types of materials for recycling, that otherwise could have gone to a landfill. All students in the school are also starting seedlings for the school garden, which provides fresh vegetables for the school cafeteria as well as for Loaves and Fishes food pantry.
Third graders are beginning to learn how to be altar servers. We hope you will see some of them at weekend Masses! Thank you very much for your prayers for all our students and their families as they seek to follow Jesus.
