The Bowdoin Chamber Choir will present an all sacred concert that will focus on the biblical King David. The concert will include works by Felix Mendelssohn, William Billings, and Eric Whitacre, as well as the gospel tune "Surely He is Able" and the spiritual "Down in the River to Pray." Pianist George Lopez will accompany and will also perform an organ solo by Sweelinck.
The Bowdoin Chamber Choir, which consists of forty liberal arts students, performs a wide variety of choral and soloistic music, and its performances include Ecuadorian music sung in the Andes, premieres of new American music for the Society of Composers, Gaelic folk songs sung in Ireland, Messiah with the Portland Symphony, a Jimi Hendrix festival, and the moresche of Lassus at a convention of the American Choral Directors Association. Past guest artists include Gary Hines, Robert Russell, Toshi Shimada, Abraham Adzenyah, Joachim Gehrold, Shannon Chase, and Yarina.
The concert is free and open to the public.
