Prince of Peace, Holy Trinity, and Our Lady of the Rosary parishes will host a training session for people who might be interested in Alpha, a ministry that encourages people outside of the Church to explore faith.
The training session will be held at Holy Family Church, located on 607 Sabattus Street in Lewiston, on Saturday, January 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All are invited to gather with leaders from the Catholic Church and other denominations for an interactive training session.
Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is held around the globe in cafés, churches, universities, homes, and other venues. No two Alphas look the same, but they generally have three key things in common: food, a talk, and good conversation.
Food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. The sessions start with food to encourage community and to get to know each other. The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Generally thirty minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as
Who is Jesus? and
How can we have faith? Then, there is a chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic in an honest, friendly environment. There is no obligation for participants to say anything.
Pre-registration for the Alpha training session in Lewiston is $25 (by December 31). Walk-in registration is $30.
