St. Joseph’s SPRED Ministry Special Religious Educationand Sacramental Preparation
Loving Hearts, Unique Gifts, One in Christ
At Prince of Peace Parish, St. Joseph’s SPRED ministry is a sacred space where individuals with disabilities are celebrated for their unique gifts and profound love for Christ. We are dedicated to welcoming them into the life of the Church, preparing them for the sacraments, and fostering their deep desire for Christ and the Eucharist.
SPRED (Special Religious Education) is not just a program—it’s a community that honors the dignity of each person, recognizing their immense love, understanding, and faith. Whether individuals have Down syndrome, autism, developmental disabilities, or physical limitations, they are cherished as essential members of the Body of Christ.
Our Mission at Prince of Peace Parish
Honoring Unique Gifts: We celebrate each person’s special journey of faith, nurturing their deep connection to Christ.
Sacramental Preparation: Preparing individuals for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion in a way that meets their needs.
Faith and Belonging: Creating an open, loving community where every individual and their family are embraced and supported.
The Heart of SPRED: The Agape Meal Central to each SPRED gathering is the Agape Meal—a sacred time of fellowship that reflects Christ’s love and unity. This time includes:
Blessing and Sharing of Bread: A prayerful act symbolizing Christ’s presence among us.
Music and Prayer: Songs and reflections that bring joy and deepen faith.
Formation and Understanding: Tailored catechesis that honors the individual’s needs and spiritual journey.
Encounters with Christ: In every interaction, we meet Christ in one another, fostering deep respect, love, and spiritual growth.

How You Can Help St. Joseph’s SPRED has been a continuous ministry at Prince of Peace Parish since 1991, and its success depends on the support of our parish family. We need volunteers to:
Prepare the Agape Meal, fostering a spirit of hospitality and fellowship.
Serve as companions, working one-on-one with our friends.
Help us continue to provide a loving, Christ-centered community for individuals with disabilities.
