As we continue our work on updating the census of the parish, our goal is to reach out to the homebound to make sure that they receive Holy Communion. It is an ancient tradition in our faith to bring the Sacred Body of Christ to those who cannot be present for the Sacrifice.
Now with live streaming, more people can join us virtually, but they do not get the chance to receive the graces of Holy Communion. Your ministry makes that possible. Bringing the Holy Eucharist to them is not only bringing Christ to them; but the minister also encounters Christ in the sick person because Jesus says that when you visit the sick, you visit him (Matthew 25).
A little change here in the parish is that we ask that no one present a pyx to the Eucharistic Minister in the Communion line. After Mass, we ask that all those who need to receive communion to bring to the homebound go to the sacristy and connect with the sacristans. You will be asked to sign a book with the date, your name and the people you are visiting. This helps us confirm that it is OK to give you Communion. We have the fear of people taking the Communion for reasons other than bringing it to the sick. This will help make sure we know where the Sacred Body of our Lord is going when it leaves the Church. Thank you for respecting this change and please refer all questions to the priests if you are upset with this change. It is not fair to take out any frustration with the change on the sacristans who are volunteers. Thanks again for all that you do. It is so significant a ministry in our faith because it also fulfills a command of our Lord to visit the sick.
