The parish is completing the task started over 10 years ago of becoming one canonical parish of Prince of Peace. Out of respect for the beloved priest, Fr Chouinard, the task of the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, Holy Cross, Holy Family, St. Patrick, St. Joseph, Holy Trinity and Our Lady of the Rosary was not completed. Msgr. Caron accomplished the need to bring the parishes in Lewiston together and assist the needs of worship space going forward, however, Lisbon Falls and Sabattus were put on hold for a more appropriate time. Now seems to be that time. The goal is that July 1, 2020, the new fiscal year for parishes, The Prince of Peace Parish will include the Churches of the Basilica, Holy Cross, Holy Family, Holy Trinity and Our Lady of the Rosary. The parish name will be Prince of Peace since all the Churches, including Holy Trinity and Our Lady of the Rosary were part of the selection of that name when it was decided years ago.
I realize that this is a long time coming, and many parishioners had thought this was already completed. If you have any concerns about the process and this upcoming merger, please contact me, Fr. Daniel Greenleaf, at 207-777-1200 or by email at daniel.greenleaf@portlanddiocese.org. My approach is not to eliminate all the different traditions and activities in each location but instead to more going on at each place. If we follow what has happened around the diocese, you can be confident that together will be stronger. Change is not always easy, but know that I will do what I can to help us all work through this together. Peace in Christ, Fr. Daniel Greenleaf.
