Celebrating Advent in the Home
Upcoming Feast Days this Week
December 6 - St. Nicholas Day
Children lay out their shoes on the eve of December 6 and wake up to treats inside. The traditional gifts are chocolate gold coins. Making St. Nicholas out of Chocolate Santas. With construction paper, pipe cleaners and hot glue, you can turn a Santa into St. Nicholas.
December 8 - Immaculate Conception
For Catholics, this is a Holy Day of Obligation, which means that we celebrate by going to Mass doing something we love to do in honor of Our Lady. Deck the house out in blue, make a special dessert, or add your own favorite twist to this beloved feast day! Make it extra special for your family by celebrating Mass and a special meal!
Getting the Whole Family Involved
Jesse Tree - Jesse Tree is a way of preparing for Advent by journeying through the stories on Jesus’s family tree. Each day of Advent, read a Bible story about someone on Jesus’s family tree and hang an ornament symbolizing the story on your Jesse Tree. As you decorate your tree, you’ll see how God prepared for Jesus to be born through many generations. See the parish website to print out your own Jesse Tree Ornaments.
Giving Tree - The parish giving tree can be a project for the entire family but to have the children “purchase” the items, wrap it and place it under the tree at the Church. In all 5 churches you will find a tree with tags of items needed for that specific community. This is a great way to help those around us this Advent Season.
